Telethon 2022

YSS performing at the CTV-Lions Children’s Christmas Telethon, December 2022

Young Sudbury Singers was established in 2007 by Dr. David Buley. Our current directors HEATHER CHARSLEY and COLETTE NADEAU have a deep commitment to accessible music education, and provide high calibre training to the singers. They are supported by a volunteer Board of parents and community members who bring a wealth of expertise and enthusiasm to the choir.

Young Sudbury Singers present two concerts annually and perform at various community events in the Sudbury area, often in conjunction with other musical ensembles such as:

  • Sudbury Symphony Orchestra
  • Bel Canto Chorus
  • Sudbury Chamber Singers
  • Heart & Soul Singers
  • Trillium Brass Quintet
  • Sudbury Youth Orchestra
  • Kampana Bells
  • No Strings Attached Community Band
  • Laurentian University Chorus
  • Laurentian University Concert Band

YSS shares their joy of singing at seniors’ residences and nursing homes, and participates in fundraisers such as:

  • CBC Radio’s annual Food Bank Fundraiser
  • CTV/Lions’ Club Children’s Telethon

The choir also contributes their talents to a variety of special events, such as:

  • The O Canada Project – a 100-voice virtual recording of our bilingual National Anthem (2020)

  • Something to Sing About! Canada/Ontario 150 choral concert – Fraser Auditorium (May 2017)

  • Canada Day Celebrations – Science North (2016) and Sudbury Arena (2017)

  • Sudbury Sings! A Choral Celebration (May 2014)

  • Remembrance Day Ceremony – Sudbury Arena (November 2012)
  • The Olympic Torch Lighting Ceremony (January 2010)

The Young Sudbury Singers have earned a Gold or High Gold Standard at each of the last twelve Sudbury Music Festivals (formerly the Kiwanis Music Festival of Sudbury). YSS is a proud member of Choirs Ontario.
