Young Sudbury Singers was established in 2007 by Dr. David Buley. Our current directors HEATHER CHARSLEY, JESSIE LLOYD, COLETTE NADEAU and KRISTINA TAYLOR have a deep commitment to accessible music education, and provide high calibre training to the singers. They are supported by a volunteer Board of parents and community members who bring a wealth of expertise and enthusiasm to the choir.

Young Sudbury Singers present two concerts annually and perform at various community events in the Sudbury area, often in conjunction with other musical ensembles such as:

       

Bel Canto Chorus (2012, 2019, 2024)

  • Sudbury Symphony Orchestra
  • Sudbury Chamber Singers
  • Heart & Soul Singers
  • Trillium Brass Quintet
  • Sudbury Youth Orchestra
  • Kampana Bells
  • No Strings Attached Community Band
  • Laurentian University Chorus
  • Laurentian University Concert Band

YSS shares their joy of singing at seniors’ residences and nursing homes, and participates in fundraisers such as:

  • CTV/Lions’ Club Children’s Telethon
  • CBC Radio’s annual Food Bank Fundraiser

The choir also contributes their talents to a variety of special events, such as:

  • World Singing Day (October 2025)
  • Mini Pop Kids Concert (February 2025)
  • Kiwanis Music Festival’s 75th Anniversary Gala Concert – Fraser Auditorium (October 2023)
  • The O Canada Project – a 100-voice virtual recording of our bilingual National Anthem (June 2020)
  • Something to Sing About! – Canada/Ontario 150 choral concert – Fraser Auditorium (May 2017)

The Young Sudbury Singers have earned a Diamond, Gold or High Gold Standard at each of the last seventeen Sudbury Music Festivals (formerly the Kiwanis Music Festival of Sudbury). YSS is a proud member of Choirs Ontario.
